The city of Haifa, spread out on the slopes of Mount Carmel, is very interestingly arranged – in several tiers. The lower city by the sea and the port, by the way, the largest port in Israel are business and office areas. Along the sea, modern buildings of glass and concrete glisten in the sun, adjacent to real slums. Old, shabby, abandoned houses with empty dark eye sockets of windows very close by. This area does not look so because of mismanagement. It arose at the very beginning of the 20th century, even under the Turks. Muslim Arabs lived here, who left their homes after the 1948 War of Independence. In Israel, there is a law under which owners of abandoned property have the right to return it to themselves no later than 50 years later. Of course, none of the former residents is going to return, and does not have such an opportunity. Continue reading
The Sea of Galilee is Israel’s largest lake. Perhaps on a global scale it is not so great, but given its importance for the country, the Israelis call it the sea. His name is also the Tiberian or Ginossar Sea. And in Hebrew, the lake is called Keenerit. The entire coast of the lake is marked by temples that were erected at different times in memory of those miracles that Jesus Christ did. These places are called the cradle of Christianity. In Capernaum, Jesus healed the sick and found his disciples. The ancient name of Magdal, from where Maria Magdalene was born, gave the name to the Russian monastery of Mary Magdalene. The Catholic Church of Minza Christie (Church of the Superiority of Peter) was built on the site where Jesus commissioned Peter to lead the Christian church. Continue reading
One of the most important place for the Christian world in the Sea of Galilee is the city of Capernaum. He is mentioned in the New Testament as the birthplace of the apostles Peter, Andrew, John and James. This city is very ancient, archaeologists are constantly working here. Some of the ancient finds are kept in many museums around the world.

And the city became the center of the preaching work of Christ, here he performed many of his miracles: healed the mother-in-law of Peter lying in a fever, healed and called for the apostolic ministry of Matthew, healed the servant of the Roman centurion who was at death, who built a synagogue for the Jews. But despite all this, only a few believed in Jesus’ preaching. The inhabitants of Capernaum drove him out of the synagogue. For this, the city was cursed and likened to Sodom. Continue reading
